Welcome to The Graduate School. The information below can be used for degree, certificate, non-degree and transient graduate programs across the university. The College of Law and the executive programs in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business have separate processes.

Each college/program has its own set of application requirements and deadlines. Typical requirements include materials such as entrance exam scores (GRE, GMAT, etc.), a personal/goal statement and letters of recommendation.

View application fee waivers

The Graduate School at Georgia State University provides application fee waivers for applicants who have participated in a range of programs. To receive the application waiver, we will need to verify your eligibility.

Review test score instructions

Depending on your desired program and/or native language, you will be required to submit entrance exam or English-proficiency scores with your application. Specific programs in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business accept unofficial test scores. If that option is applicable, you will see the Unofficial Test Scores page in your application. Other applicants must submit official scores.

Testing requirements vary by graduate program. Applicants should contact the graduate program they are interested in to obtain specific admission requirements. Applications can be submitted prior to completing an entrance exam. Application materials, including official test scores, must be received by the application deadline. You can use your online application to track the receipt of test scores at any time.

English Proficiency

Review transcript instructions

Graduate applicants must submit one transcript for each college or university (postsecondary institution) attended, including community colleges, study abroad programs and AP credit. A transcript should be submitted for review regardless of length of time attended, whether or not grades are listed or where the final degree was conferred.

Whether unofficial or official transcripts are accepted is based upon your college, school or institute of interest.

Official Transcripts (Required)

If your program is in one of the colleges listed below, you MUST submit official transcripts for review and admission purposes. Unofficial transcripts submitted in the online application will NOT be used. Application materials, including transcripts, must be received by the application deadline. You can log in to your online application to track the receipt of materials at any time.

If your program is in one of the colleges or schools listed below, you have the option to submit official or unofficial transcripts for review and admission purposes. If subsequently admitted, you will be required to submit official transcripts using the process above. Applicants should contact the graduate program they are interested in to obtain specific admission requirements. Applications can be submitted prior to completing an entrance exam. Colleges that accept unofficial transcripts:

Review international applicant requirements

Georgia State values the contributions made by students from abroad. International students come from more than 150 countries and are integral to the diversity of our university community. Applicants who completed all or part of their education abroad may be subject to additional application requirements.

English Proficiency

In addition to meeting all other applicable requirements for admission, non-native speakers of English must demonstrate sufficient English-language proficiency. Proof of English proficiency can be demonstrated through one of the following:

Any applicant whose country of birth is English-speaking is not subject to the English-Proficiency requirement – see list of countries (below) that satisfy this requirement.
